Global Investor Groups Urge World Leaders to Sign and Accede to the Paris Climate Agreement l Investor Platform for Climate Actions

- 72 hours before more than 130 world leaders are expected to travel to New York to sign the Paris Agreement, organisations that collectively represent more than 400 institutional investors with USD 24 trillion of assets under management have called on world leaders to not only sign but accede to the Paris Agreement and implement it into national law as a matter of urgency.

On Friday, more than 130 heads of state and political leaders from around the world will convene in New York for the high-level signing ceremony of the historic Paris Agreement on climate change, which was set last December at COP21 in Paris. US president Obama and China’s President Xi have already announced their participation at the event, which officially opens a signing period that ends on April 21, 2017 and will accelerate implementation of the accord on a global scale.

Institutions managing $6 trillion in assets plan to back a call for U.S. oil major ExxonMobil to disclose the impact of climate change policy on its business, one of the organizers of the vote said on Tuesday. The resolution asks Exxon to disclose how resilient its portfolio and strategy would be under a globally agreed plan to restrict global warming to 2 degrees, as agreed in Paris in December.
