On November 14, the Intentional Endowments Network (IEN) gathered over 180 supporters, friends, and partners for an unforgettable evening at Boston’s Museum of Science. The event marked a dual celebration: IEN’s 10-year anniversary and the celebration of IEN’s co-founder Tony Cortese's remarkable career.
The night began with an air of excitement as guests arrived at the museum’s Blue Wing Exhibit for a lively welcome reception. VIP attendees explored the latest AI exhibit, while others roamed three floors of interactive displays, engaging in meaningful conversations with peers. Adding to the ambiance, Peter Marton, Lecturer at Boston University, led a band performance, filling the space with music and energy.
A Warm Welcome
As the reception concluded, Georges Dyer, IEN’s Executive Director and Co-Founder, took the stage to offer a heartfelt toast and introduce Alex Lamb, the evening’s emcee. Alex, Managing Director at New Summit Investments and a member of the gala host committee, shared welcoming remarks before guiding guests to a sumptuous buffet on the first floor, where the night’s main program unfolded.
Celebrating the Journey and Honoring Tony Cortese
Dinner began with two moving videos. The first chronicled IEN’s growth through the eyes of its supporters, highlighting the network’s transformative impact over the past decade. The second video celebrated Tony Cortese’s remarkable contributions to sustainable investing and community building.
In a surprise moment, Georges presented Tony with a unique sculpture of a unicorn crafted by artist Nancy Schön. The gift symbolized Tony’s one-of-a-kind vision and his cherished connection to Boston’s North End.
Thought-Provoking Conversations
The evening transitioned to a powerful fireside chat featuring Tony Cortese, Georges Dyer, Dianne Dillon-Ridgley, Natasha Lamb, and Mindy Lubber. The panel reflected on the evolving landscape of sustainable investing—its strides toward mainstream acceptance and the challenges it faces today. The overarching message? Community and unwavering commitment are essential for advancing a regenerative economy.
Introducing the Anthony Cortese Fellowship Fund
A highlight of the gala was the announcement of IEN’s newest initiative, the Anthony Cortese Fellowship Fund. Created in Tony’s honor, the fund aims to support future leaders in sustainable finance, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds. Attendees cheered as Alex Lamb revealed that IEN had already surpassed half of the $150,000 fundraising goal.
IEN team members Aicha Ly, Paris Prince, Bella Alvarez, Sorelle Ngatchou, and Nicole Torrico shared personal stories and insights, underscoring the fund’s potential to drive meaningful change. Their heartfelt remarks inspired guests to contribute, with pledge cards circulating throughout the room.
Festive Final Moments
Before closing the evening, Alex Lamb and Tony Cortese drew the winner of the much-anticipated E-Bike raffle: Connor Kozin, an Investment Associate at Boston University. Cheers erupted as Connor accepted his prize and posed for photos.
Georges Dyer returned to thank attendees and supporters whose leadership and generosity fuel IEN’s mission to advance sustainable investing. He invited guests to continue exploring the museum, enjoy coffee and dessert, and savor the festive atmosphere of the evening.
Looking Ahead
As we reflect on this memorable milestone, we are filled with gratitude for our vibrant network of supporters. Together, we’ve celebrated a decade of impact, honored a trailblazer, and taken a significant step toward empowering the next generation of sustainable finance leaders.
The excitement doesn’t end here! We look forward to seeing you at the Higher Education Climate Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C., from February 2–4, 2025. Until then, let’s keep building toward a sustainable future.
