The University at Buffalo Foundation has supported the mission and goals of the University at Buffalo, a State University of New York member, for more than 60 years. UB is New York's flagship university, is ranked the #2 university in the U.S. for climate action, and is ranked #36 overall the best public university in the U.S. The university's commitment to sustainability is a central focus for the UB community. UB has pledged to become climate neutral by 2030 and formed the Environmental Stewardship Committee who are charged with charting the university's path toward climate neutrality and sustainability.
The Foundation which is UB's philanthropic partner and an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, plays a vital role in helping UB enhance and expand its global reputation by managing gifts and grants, developing and operating real property, and managing a nearly $1B endowment portfolio. To better align with UB's commitment to sustainability, in 2021 the Foundation's Board of Trustees divested from companies that derive revenues from fossil fuels.
