Assets Under Management: $516 Million (2023)

The University of Waterloo’s endowment was valued at $515.6 million.The university is committed to responsible investing, having signed the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI) in 2020. It aims to reduce the carbon footprint of its endowment and pension investments by 50% by 2030 and achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. Additionally, the university has committed to avoiding material direct investments in fossil fuel companies by 2025.

The University of Waterloo has committed to reducing the carbon footprint of endowment investment portfolios by 50 per cent by the year 2030 and is committing to achieving full carbon neutrality by 2040.

Sustainable Impact Investing: In their news page, under the ‘summary provided to board members’ includes, “make investments that support climate change innovation and transition”

Sustainable Investment Policy: Waterloo’s list of goals includes: removing all fossil fuel holdings, phasing out investments that hold climate change risk according to their news page.

Principles for Responsible Investing: Waterloo signed onto PRI May 11th, 2020.
