IEN Webinar: University of Toronto Asset Management Corporation - Applying an ESG Lens to Our Investment Decisions

Date: Thursday, June 27, 2019 1pm EDT

In this webinar we are joined by Lisa Becker, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Compliance Officer for the University of Toronto Asset Management Corporation (UTAM) and Chris Fowle, Director of Americas for the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI).

Lisa shares an overview of the journey that UTAM has taken in applying an ESG lens to its investment decisions. As described in UTAM’s recently-released 2018 Responsible Investing Report, the process has included leveraging the resources, knowledge, and power of service providers and peer groups. After becoming a signatory to the PRI in 2016, UTAM has also become active in shareholder engagement work coordinated by the PRI under the Climate Action 100+ coalition. Chris outlines the commitment signatories make to starting a journey around ESG integration using the UN-supported PRI’s framework and supporting information. This discussion shares lessons and answers your questions about building the field of responsible investing and working in coalition to achieve sustainability and responsible investing goals.

Watch the recording to explore the ways UTAM has approached endowment governance, manager selection and monitoring, engagement/proxy voting, and communication, in partnership with peers and supporting organizations.
